Respect for the environment and sustainable production processes
Among its fundamental and essential principles, Italian Leather Group assigns a fundamental role to the respect for the environment, pursued through fully sustainable production processes.
In addition to traditional chrome tanning, ILG proposes a “Chrome Free” ecological tannin, based on vegetable and synthetic tannins, which ensures an extraordinary naturalness, softness and dyeing of hides (wet white). “Chrome Free” hides also have an important benefit for the environment since no special procedure is required for their final disposal.
The competence, the availability and the enthusiasm of human resources are one of the peculiar characteristics of ILG. The search for increasingly adequate methods of communication with the staff is one of the main objectives of company policy.
The dissemination of information by exploiting the terminals of the department, the positioning of ‘telematic devices’ in the most strategic areas of the company, the use of a special multimedia training room are among the tools constantly used by ILG for the growth and involvement of human resources.
The policies regarding occupational safety are at the center of ILG’s corporate strategy, which adopts every useful measure, in addition to those imposed by the regulations, for its full protection: the working environments, the plants and the equipment are chosen and maintained strictly respecting the Italian and European safety regulations in force.
The production team is subjected to periodic training sessions and updates on the evolution of regulations regarding safety measures, changes in the processes and machinery and behavioral rules to be kept (sometimes the main source of risk) which are monitored carefully by ILG.
The order and cleanliness of workplaces and the use of chemical products more compatible with human activity contribute to the protection of the health and safety of the operators, periodically subjected to rigorous health checks.
The plants for the purification of industrial wastewater and for the reduction of emissions into the atmosphere are authorized by the competent authorities that periodically certify their compliance with current regulations.
In 2016, an important plant for the accumulation of second rainwater was also built. These waters are treated and subsequently reused in the production process in order to reduce the consumption of the water resource significantly. The aim is to improve the efficiency of the purifier in order to reuse about 20% of the water purified in the production process and improve the quality of purified wastewater.
Since 2007, the entire environmental management system is checked annually by external bodies, in compliance with the voluntary environmental certification UNI EN ISO 14001.
